Video Promotions - Youtube

Youtube is the second largest search engine after google, with more than 20 billion video views per month. It’s a big opportunity that cannot be missed out.

In 2012, video marketing will be revolving around ‘youtube marketing’. Below are some key points you need to follow for all your websites.

1. Add videos for the website, if not present. Any website can have videos (directly related or not), that needs to be informational, eye-catching and searchable.

2. If flash videos/ non-youtube videos are present on the site, need to upload them in youtube and use embedded url for the webpage.

3. Add annotations, descriptions, and captions using keywords as suggested by youtube keyword tool.

4.Videos should have links to the parent website in starting and end.

5. Promote video links in articles, bookmarks, forums etc. Also commenting and posting within youtube, yahoo videos and other sites.

Even though video's are flash files, optimising the video URL as on the site leads to more traffic on the website than just putting them on youtube. All this depends on the type of website, objectives and we can not make any generalisations

there would not be any negative effect on site traffic, because Video URL will reside on primary domain only.

Eg. If present URL is www.abc.com/plastic-surgery.swf

New optimized URL would be www.abc.com/plastic-surgery that resides on same primary domain.

Advantages:

1. It will appear in youtube search results

2. Videos can be better optimized with keywords in description, title, captions etc within youtube.

3. More keywords can be used as text along with video in the main site (www.abc.com/plastic-surgery)

4. On promotions of the above URL, google spiders can very well index the text from youtube desc, title (youtube being the product of google)

Thanks for explaining it in such a lucid way. Should the video reside only on youtube or also on other sites on the net (video channels and blogs?). Is there any issue of duplicate content with video if we do so?

Video can reside on other sites on the net as well. There are two aspects to it:

1. Video Sites that uploads and play video from their servers (eg. Youtube)

In this scenario, we don’t have any control on the video coding, headers etc as video now resides on the third party server. The duplicate content problem will arises in both cases (using youtube embeded URL OR swf url). The solution could be providing link to the source URL within the video (if goggle spiders reads flash, they will definitely read source as well)

2. Video sites that embeds the video (similar to iframe)

In this scenario, as the video is furnished from our own site with same URL, duplicate content issue should not arise.

To be on safer side, we can use rel=”canonical” in the header tag of the video when requested by the user.
